WHAT IS AN OUT OF DISTRICT TRANSFER?
An Out of District Transfer is also known as an Inter-District transfer. This is needed when families wish to enroll their student(s) at a school that is outside of the District in which they reside OR when parents wish to enroll their students into a Newark Unified School District school but physically reside in an another District's boundaries.
How Do I Apply for an Out of District Transfer (Inter-District Transfer)?
NEWARK RESIDENT
Email the completed form to nlemas@newarkunified.org and be sure to attach all necessary background information including:
- Grades
- Transcript
- Attendance
- Discipline reports
- IEP (if applicable)
NON-NEWARK RESIDENT
To transfer your student from another district into Newark Unified School District, you must begin the process within the DISTRICT IN WHICH YOU RESIDE. Please contact your current school district for questions and procedures.

Interdistrict requests are NOT accepted at the school sites.
